Ava
I try to restrain myself, but I can't; I text her. It's only been an hour since I left, yet I miss her desperately.
And Clover too.
Heading to the nearest Walmart, I fill my cart with a cat bed, food, litter, and some toys. In the morning, Iâll call the leasing office to get Clover on my contract. When I return home, I set down my bags on the counter and take in my apartmentâit was perfection for a bachelor pad before Alana entered my life. But now it's empty; it's missing her. The love we shared last night was incredible; no one has ever made me feel that wayâloved, wanted, and needed. I bury my face in my hands; craving her so badly.
Spending the evening trying to forget her, nothingânot even exercise or a cold showerâworks. Until I'm cuddled against her again, sleep will elude me.
Early the next morning I go back to routine: a protein shake and water fill me up and my duffel bag is packed with the essentials plus a spare outfit and key along with my spare parking pass for Alana.
Training sessions are grueling, and I'm sure it will take a toll on my body later in life, but I love what I do more than anything. My earnings are reinvested in real estate; residential and commercial. I've also been offered brand deals, but I'm selective of who I partner with as they come with many contractual stipulations that can consume the little free time that I have. That time is officially reserved for Alana.
I've read over the text she sent me at least twelve times. It's dull and could be a contrived pity reply, but my heart grasps it as something more. She misses me.
Alana has me head over heels. I'm even thinking about her during training sessions. I'll be leaving for Florida in a few days and part of me wants to invite her along. The only thing holding me back is Clover; hell, Iâll pay for her too. I've fallen in love with the cat.
Jodie notices me in the locker room and takes a seat on the bench beside me to chat. It's been days since our encounter at the diner and her silence indicates that she was actually having fun. She takes up the brush in her hand, softly brushing her fresh cut before speaking: âI haven't heard from you in days. You must have really gotten yourself into trouble this time." Her expression turns pinkish and my mouth drops open. Without a single word, I toss my sweat-drenched jersey at her faceâwhich she catches before it hits her foreheadâand she laughs. âDamn girl, looks like she's got you by the balls."
âWell, she nearly gave me a beating after how I treated Alana in the diner. I was wrong about her, and owe Alana an apology.â As soon as those words leave her lips, I tense up--because the truth is, I donât want Jodie anywhere near Alana.
Back in high school, Jodie had been borderline obsessed with Alana.
